Introduced Text

Pennsylvania HB1472 mandates economic and workforce impact studies for State-related university campus closures.

HB1472 amends the Public School Code of 1949 to require State-related universities to conduct economic and workforce impact studies before closing a campus. The study must assess potential harm to local communities and whether students will have reasonable alternatives for postsecondary education. The Department of Labor and Industry selects an independent research institution to conduct the study. The board of trustees cannot approve a campus closure if the study shows significant harm or lack of alternatives.
