Introduced Text

Pennsylvania HB1125 establishes a permit system for automated license plate reader systems on trafficways.

Pennsylvania HB1125 amends Title 75 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes to add a chapter on automated license plate reader systems. The purpose is to establish a permit system for these systems on trafficways. The Department of Transportation will issue permits, requiring breakaway poles in certain areas and allowing non-breakaway poles if behind a barrier. Installation can occur up to 15 feet from the travel lane without a curb or barrier and can attach to existing infrastructure with proper approvals. Third parties can apply on behalf of law enforcement agencies with authorization.
