Pennsylvania HB1002 requires parental notification for incidents of student suicide threats and bullying.
HB1002 amends the Public School Code of 1949 to mandate that school entities notify parents or legal guardians if a student threatens suicide or is involved in bullying. The Department of Education must develop a model policy for these notifications and make it available to all schools. Schools must adopt their own notification policies based on the model, inform employees and parents of these policies, and post them online. The Department must also provide resources and materials on youth suicide prevention, including ways to limit access to lethal means.
