Oregon SB1530 expands the crime of aggravated harassment to include threats against public officials.

Oregon SB1530 amends the crime of aggravated harassment to include intentionally conveying threats to inflict serious physical injury on public officials or their family members. The threats must be telephonic, electronic, or written and reasonably expected to cause alarm. The bill defines public officials broadly, including elected or appointed officials, prosecutors, and judges. The crime is a Class C felony, punishable by up to five years in prison, a fine of up to $125,000, or both. The Act declares an emergency and takes effect upon passage.
