Oklahoma SB7 creates the Oklahoma Teacher Recruitment Academy to provide tuition and fee assistance to students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a critical shortage subject area. Eligible students must commit to teaching in a public school in Oklahoma for a number of years equal to the academic years they received assistance. The State Department of Education identifies critical shortage subject areas and publishes a list. The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education administers the program, sets aside funds, and promulgates rules.
