Oklahoma SB591 creates the Free to Speak Act, prohibiting public school and higher learning employees from addressing students by names or pronouns.

Oklahoma SB591, known as the Free to Speak Act, prohibits public school and state institution of higher learning employees from addressing students by names or pronouns inconsistent with their sex. Employees cannot face adverse actions for declining to identify their pronouns. Students are also protected from disciplinary actions for refusing to address others by names or pronouns inconsistent with their sex. Employees or students harmed by violations can seek injunctive relief, monetary damages, and legal costs. The act takes effect immediately upon passage and approval.
