Equal Parenting Act modifies child custody considerations in Oklahoma.
The Equal Parenting Act amends Oklahoma's child custody laws by prioritizing the safety and well-being of the child and the non-abusive parent in custody disputes. It establishes a rebuttable presumption against sole custody, joint legal or physical custody, or shared parenting plans with abusive parents. The court must consider the safety of the child and non-abusive parent as primary factors. The act also allows for the appointment of an arbitrator to resolve disputes between parents with joint custody. The act becomes effective November 1, 2026.
