Oklahoma HB1272 modifies vehicle approach requirements, renames offenses, and allows program participation in lieu of fines.
Oklahoma HB1272 amends the Bernardo-Mills Law by modifying the types of vehicles that must change lanes or slow down when approaching stationary authorized emergency vehicles. It renames the offense of roadway endangerment of an emergency worker to aggravated roadway endangerment of an emergency worker. The bill also allows motorists to participate in the Operation Work Zone Awareness program instead of paying a fine for certain moving violations in work zones. The program includes an online presentation with educational content. The act becomes effective November 1, 2025.
