HB1178

Oklahoma HB1178 amends public accommodation laws to clarify definitions and penalties for misrepresenting animals as service animals.

Oklahoma HB1178 amends the definition of "service animal" and "public accommodation" to align with federal regulations, excluding emotional support and therapy animals. It makes it unlawful to misrepresent an animal as a service animal to gain benefits, with penalties for such actions. Public accommodations must post signs indicating which animals are prohibited and must follow federal guidelines when inquiring about service animals. The act provides an effective date for these changes.
