Oklahoma HB1070 codifies a new law granting arrested persons the right to make at least three completed telephone calls at no expense if within the local calling area, or at their own expense if outside the area. This right must be exercised immediately upon arrest and booked into a city or county jail facility, and no later than 48 hours after arrest, except where physically impossible. The calls can be made to an attorney of their choice or, if they have no funds to pay for an attorney, to the public defender or other court-assigned attorney. The act becomes effective November 1, 2025.
