North Carolina S957 allows customers to operate portable-scale solar energy generation devices for personal use without needing to participate in net metering tariffs. The bill exempts these devices from certain certification requirements and prohibits electric power suppliers from requiring interconnection agreements or additional controls. It also allocates $100,000 for expanding the public awareness program by the Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors. The act becomes effective July 1, 2026.
