These devices include pepper spray, pepper gel, mace, tasers, ordinary pocket knives, and similar nonlethal items. The bill also appropriates $10,000 to the Board of Governors of The University of North Carolina to inform the public and campus community about these changes. The provisions take effect December 1, 2026, for offenses committed on or after that date.
