North Carolina S679, known as the Women's Care Act, allows courts to temporarily defer the imprisonment of pregnant women found not to be a threat to the community. This deferment can last until 12 weeks after delivery or the end of the pregnancy. During this period, the pregnant woman must maintain perinatal healthcare, treatment, and assessments and participate in available education and resource programs. The court can conduct supervision via phone or electronic communications.
