Allows for mitigated sentencing for survivors of domestic violence and other forms of abuse in North Carolina.

The North Carolina Survivors' Act allows for mitigated sentencing for survivors of domestic violence and other forms of abuse. It applies to criminal sentencing under the General Statutes and other relevant laws. The act permits a person who was a victim of domestic violence or abuse at the time of their offense to request resentencing. The court may consider evidence of abuse and other mitigating factors when determining a new sentence. The act reduces certain sentences, such as life without parole to 30 years or less, and life with parole to 25 years or less.
