S.654

End Dual Licensure for Audiologists

Introduced·3/25/25

Ends dual licensure for audiologists and requires disclosure for locked hearing aids.

North Carolina S654 eliminates dual licensure requirements for audiologists, audiology assistants, and audiology technicians. It also mandates that licensed audiologists disclose proprietary or locked programming software when selling hearing aids. This disclosure must be in writing, in 12-point type or larger, and signed by the patient before sale completion. The audiologist must retain a copy of this signed notice. The bill requires record-keeping for these transactions, including the sale date, hearing aid details, and terms of any warranty.
