North Carolina S644 appropriates $1.5 billion to improve energy efficiency in public school buildings and replace combustion-powered school buses with electric-powered ones. The funds will be used to install high-efficiency lighting, replace pipe insulation, weatherize doors and windows, upgrade HVAC systems, and install solar photovoltaic panels. Additionally, $250 million will be used to replace old school buses with new electric-powered buses assembled in the state. The act becomes effective July 1, 2025.
