S.637

Ensure Same-Sex Domestic Violence Prot. Order

Introduced·3/25/25

Expands eligibility for domestic violence protective orders to include same-sex couples in North Carolina.

This bill amends the definition of "personal relationship" in North Carolina's domestic violence protective order statute to include same-sex couples. It specifies that a dating relationship is one where the parties are romantically involved over time and on a continuous basis. The act becomes effective upon enactment and applies to orders issued thereafter.
