H'cane Helene Bldg Code Window Exemption

Chamber Passed·5/5/25

Exemption from fire-resistant window requirements for commercial buildings damaged by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina.

This bill provides a temporary exemption from certain North Carolina State Building Code requirements for fire-resistant windows for commercial buildings damaged by Hurricane Helene. Eligible buildings must be located in a county declared a major disaster due to the hurricane, be classified as a commercial occupancy, and be within a central business or downtown commercial district. Building owners can elect to use windows with the same fire-protection rating as before the hurricane, provided they submit a notarized affidavit with their building permit application.
