North Carolina S596 provides $169 million in nonrecurring funds for North Carolina Central University to address critical infrastructure issues. The funds will be used for $100 million to repair, upgrade, and replace HVAC, fire safety, and building code systems; $9 million for roof replacements and building envelope repairs; and $60 million to replace electrical, storm and domestic water, and steam distribution infrastructure. This funding aims to prevent further damage, reduce future costs, and improve campus safety and efficiency. The act becomes effective July 1, 2025.
