The Hands Free NC Act prohibits using wireless communication devices while operating a motor vehicle.

The Hands Free NC Act makes it unlawful to use a wireless communication device while operating a motor vehicle on a public street, highway, or public vehicular area. Exceptions include using a device for emergency communication, by emergency personnel, or by public utility or communications service providers performing official duties. Violators face fines, and repeat offenders face increased penalties. The act also incorporates driver education to encourage compliance.
