North Carolina S442 protects parents from abuse or neglect petitions based on raising a child consistent with their biological sex.

North Carolina S442, known as the Parents Protection Act, shields parents, guardians, custodians, and caretakers from abuse or neglect petitions if they raise a juvenile consistent with the juvenile's biological sex or refer to them by their biological sex. This protection does not extend to other prohibited acts that constitute abuse or neglect, such as abandonment or creating an injurious basis of race. The act also prevents agencies from denying or delaying the opportunity to become a foster or adoptive parent or the placement of a child based on the refusal to support a gender transition.
