North Carolina S384 requires the Commission for Public Health to establish maximum contaminant levels for chemicals that are probable or known carcinogens or are otherwise toxic. The Commission must set these levels by October 15, 2025, and consider those from other states. The Commission must also review the latest science and studies annually to revise these levels as needed, focusing on contaminants like PFAS, PFOA, PFOS, hexavalent chromium, and 1,4-Dioxane. This act becomes effective upon becoming law.
