North Carolina S324 requires the Commission for Public Health to establish maximum contaminant levels (MCLs) for specific chemicals in drinking water. These include per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), hexavalent chromium (chromium-6), and 1,4-Dioxane. The Commission must also consider MCLs for other contaminants identified by at least two other states. MCLs must be protective of public health and not exceed those set by the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
