S.109

Veterans Appreciation Act

Introduced·2/17/25

North Carolina S109 increases property tax relief for disabled veterans by excluding home value appreciation funded by VA grants.

North Carolina S109, the Veterans Appreciation Act, enhances property tax relief for disabled veterans by excluding from taxation the appreciation of their home's appraised value attributable to housing grants from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. This exclusion applies to the first $45,000 of the residence's appraised value. The bill also allows disabled veterans to prequalify for this tax benefit, enabling them to secure a primary residence with knowledge of the available tax relief. This act is effective for taxes imposed for taxable years beginning on or after July 1, 2025.
