The HEAL Act

Establishes a fund and task force to research psychedelic drugs for mental health treatment in North Carolina.

The HEAL Act establishes the Breakthrough Therapies Research Grant Fund to award competitive grants for research on psychedelic drugs. The Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Use Services will award up to five grants of at least one million dollars each. The research focuses on treating mental health conditions in military veterans, first responders, frontline healthcare personnel, and survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault.
