Return Oversight of OSFM to DOI Commissioner

Introduced·4/10/25

Return Oversight of OSFM to DOI Commissioner in North Carolina.

This bill repeals sections of previous laws that granted independence to the Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM). It returns oversight of the OSFM to the Commissioner of the Department of Insurance (DOI). Existing fire department identification numbers, representative trustees, advisory panel designees, and board members will continue their roles until their terms expire or are otherwise terminated. The Commissioner will then appoint successors. The bill also maintains current rules and positions within the OSFM unless changed by the General Assembly.
