Prescription Eye Drop Early Refill Coverage

Introduced·4/8/25

North Carolina H820 requires health benefit plans to cover early refills of prescription eye drops.

North Carolina H820 mandates that health benefit plans offering coverage for prescription eye drops must also cover early refills. This applies to contracts issued, renewed, or amended on or after October 1, 2025. The bill specifies that coverage should not be denied if the patient requests a refill after using 70% of the prescribed dosage or 21 days post-distribution, whichever comes first. The State Health Plan is also required to comply with these provisions starting from the next plan year.
