The bill amends North Carolina law to grant state employees up to 40 hours of paid leave following the death of an immediate family member and up to eight hours for a colleague. The State Human Resources Commission will adopt rules for part-time employees to receive prorated leave. Employees must provide documentation of the death and may use the leave as needed within 180 days. The leave is separate from sick and vacation leave and has no cash value. The bill appropriates $2 million annually for fiscal years 2025-2027 to fund this leave.
