North Carolina H677 requires movie theaters with more than 10 showings per week to provide open captioning for at least one-fourth of all scheduled showings of movies with four or more showings. At least half of these showings must occur during peak attendance hours. The bill defines open captioning as the on-screen display of a movie's dialogue and non-speech information. Theaters must advertise showings with open captioning and maintain compliance records for three years. The act becomes effective October 1, 2025.
