The G.U.A.R.D. Act, or Guaranteeing Uninterrupted Access to Resident Dignity Act, permits residents in nursing homes and adult care homes to monitor their rooms using electronic devices such as video surveillance cameras, audio devices, mobile telephones, or internet video surveillance devices. The resident bears all costs associated with installation, maintenance, and removal of these devices. Nursing homes and adult care homes must provide power sources and secure mounting spaces for these devices and cannot refuse admission or discharge residents based on the use of such devices.
