Constitutional amendment to change how vacancies in certain state offices are filled.
This bill proposes a constitutional amendment to change the process for filling vacancies in the offices of Secretary of State, Auditor, Treasurer, Superintendent of Public Instruction, Attorney General, Commissioner of Agriculture, Commissioner of Labor, and Commissioner of Insurance. Currently, the Governor appoints someone to fill the vacancy until a successor is elected. The amendment would require the Governor to select from a list of three nominees recommended by the political party with which the vacating officer was affiliated, if applicable.
