The North Carolina Institute of Medicine is directed to study the advantages and disadvantages of legalizing medical aid in dying (MAID) in North Carolina. The study will evaluate the process of applying for and receiving approval for MAID, factors influencing the decision to seek MAID, characteristics of those who seek MAID, and the social and emotional impacts on family members. The study will also consider the medications used for MAID, options for healthcare providers to opt out, and data from current MAID states.
