This bill reenacts the Pistol Purchase Permit Law, which requires a permit from the sheriff to purchase or receive a pistol or long gun in North Carolina. The permit expires five years from the date of issuance. The bill also requires a permit for the purchase of a long gun. The sheriffs of any and all counties of this State shall issue the permit, which shall be a standard form created by the State Bureau of Investigation in consultation with the North Carolina Sheriffs' Association.
