North Carolina H340 requires the State Board of Education to create or acquire a screening assessment for identifying academically or intellectually gifted students in sixth grade. The bill allocates $7 million from the General Fund to the Department of Public Instruction for the 2025-2026 fiscal year to cover the costs of this initiative. The screening assessments will be used in all middle schools to assist in identifying gifted students. The act becomes effective July 1, 2025.
