Provides flexibility to Vance County Schools in setting school calendar dates.
This bill allows Vance County Schools to set their own opening and closing dates for the school year, with certain conditions. The closing date must be no later than the Friday closest to June 11. The State Board of Education can waive the requirement for the opening date to be no earlier than the Monday closest to August 26 if there is good cause, such as severe weather or emergencies. Local boards can set an opening date no earlier than the Monday closest to August 19 if they can accommodate makeup days.
