Expunging certain eviction records in North Carolina after specific conditions are met.
This bill amends North Carolina law to allow for the expungement of certain eviction records under specific conditions. For summary ejectment actions resolved in favor of the defendant, the court must expunge records if the defendant has stabilized housing. This includes consistent rent or mortgage payments and no new eviction proceedings. The Administrative Office of the Courts will create forms for these petitions, available by September 30, 2025. The act becomes effective October 1, 2025.
