Authorizes affordable housing for Durham County teachers, police, first responders, and other employees.
This bill allows the Durham Public Schools Board of Education and the County of Durham to provide affordable housing for teachers, sworn law enforcement officers, other first responders, and Durham Public Schools Board of Education employees. At least 75% of the housing units must be reserved for teachers. The housing can be financed, constructed, or maintained by any entity. The bill also allows the housing units to be rented at below-market rates and exempts them from certain building codes and zoning ordinances.
