Promote North Carolina Sawmills

Chamber Passed·3/20/25

Allows use of ungraded lumber in NC residential construction under certain conditions.

This bill allows the use of ungraded lumber in the construction of one- and two-family dwellings in North Carolina, provided specific conditions are met. The North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service must establish a lumber grading training program and small mills must register with the North Carolina Forest Service. Sawmill operators must be certified and provide a certificate with details about the lumber. The North Carolina Residential Code and Building Code must be amended to permit the use of ungraded lumber.
