SchCalFlex/Kannapolis/Open Cal

Introduced·2/21/25

Provides flexibility to Kannapolis City Schools in setting school calendar dates.

The bill allows Kannapolis City Schools to set school opening and closing dates with certain conditions. The closing date must be no later than the Friday closest to June 11. The State Board of Education can waive the requirement for an opening date no earlier than the Monday closest to August 26 if there is good cause, such as frequent school closures due to severe weather or emergencies. Local boards may also set an opening date no earlier than the Monday closest to August 19 if it allows for sufficient instructional days.
