Introduced·2/17/25

North Carolina H148 provides flexibility to Jackson, Swain, and Transylvania County Schools in setting school calendar dates.

North Carolina H148 amends the state's school calendar regulations to allow Jackson, Swain, and Transylvania County Schools more flexibility in setting their opening and closing dates. The bill specifies that local boards of education can set the opening date no earlier than the Monday closest to August 26 and the closing date no later than the Friday closest to June 11. The State Board of Education can waive these dates if there is good cause, such as severe weather or emergencies, allowing the opening date to be set as early as the Monday closest to August 19.
