North Carolina H144 proposes a constitutional amendment to change the State Board of Education. The amendment would allow voters to elect State Board of Education members from districts established by the General Assembly. These elected members would serve four-year terms. Additionally, the Superintendent of Public Instruction would serve as the chair of the State Board of Education. The amendment would be submitted to voters in the November 2026 election and, if approved, would take effect January 1, 2028.
