North Carolina H121 provides flexibility to local boards of education in setting school opening and closing dates.
North Carolina H121 allows local boards of education to set school opening and closing dates with certain conditions. The opening date for students must be no earlier than the Monday closest to August 26, and the closing date must be no later than the Friday closest to June 11. The State Board of Education can waive these dates if there is good cause, such as severe weather or emergencies. Local boards can also revise the closing date to meet minimum instructional requirements. This act applies starting with the 2025-2026 school year.
