North Carolina H1188 prohibits local law enforcement from housing noncitizens in immigration detention facilities.

North Carolina H1188 prohibits city, county, or local law enforcement agencies from entering into contracts to house noncitizens in immigration detention facilities. It also bans the maintenance of such facilities for civil immigration custody. The Department of Public Safety must collect data on detainees and report it annually to the General Assembly. The act includes provisions for data collection on detainees' demographic information, pending charges, citizenship or asylum cases, location detained, and release or deportation details.
