Introduced Text

New Jersey SCR27 proposes a constitutional amendment to guarantee environmental rights and make the State a trustee of natural resources.

New Jersey SCR27 proposes a constitutional amendment to ensure every person has a right to a clean and healthy environment, including pure water, clean air, a safe climate, and healthy habitats. The amendment would also require the State to conserve and maintain its natural resources for the benefit of all people. The State would serve as trustee of these resources, which include waters, air, flora, fauna, climate, and public lands. The amendment would become part of the Constitution if approved by voters at the next general election.
