Expands duties of State Auditor to include performance audits at request of legislator; establishes Performance Audit Committee to help conduct.

This bill expands the duties of the State Auditor to include conducting performance audits of State or State-supported agency programs at the request of a legislator. Performance audits examine the economy, efficiency, and effectiveness of specific programs. The bill establishes a Performance Audit Committee, consisting of eight public members appointed by legislative leaders, to assist the State Auditor in conducting these audits. The committee members are selected based on their education and experience in accounting, business administration, or economics.
