New Jersey S987 amends the Statewide Water Supply Plan to require a minimum 20-year planning duration and adds new requirements. The plan must include measures for protecting ecologically sensitive water sources, an assessment of climate threats, a plan to address water supply deficits, and an evaluation of water use efficiency. The Department of Environmental Protection must also consult with the Highlands Water Protection and Planning Council before adopting revisions. The bill prohibits funding allocation from the "Water Supply Bond Act of 1981" until the plan is updated.
