New Jersey S894 prohibits financial institutions from penalizing individuals for exercising constitutionally protected speech. This includes both expression and using the institution's services to express such speech. The bill applies to banks, savings banks, savings and loan associations, building and loan associations, credit unions, and money transmitters. The Commissioner of Banking and Insurance can enforce this law, with violators facing civil penalties of up to $10,000 per violation or $50,000 for willful violations. The act takes effect immediately upon enactment.
