New Jersey S761 amends existing law to impose a mandatory minimum three-year prison term for drivers who knowingly leave the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in serious bodily injury. The defendant would not be eligible for parole during this term. If convicted of multiple offenses, sentences must run consecutively. A conviction under this section will not merge with a conviction for aggravated assault or assault by auto, and separate sentences will be imposed for each conviction. This act takes effect immediately.
