Complete·1/20/26

Establishes a program for the acquisition of development easements on privately-owned woodlands in New Jersey.

The bill establishes a program within the Office of Green Acres in the Department of Environmental Protection for acquiring development easements on privately-owned woodlands. To be eligible, the woodlands must be at least five contiguous acres and managed according to an approved forest stewardship or woodland management plan. The Woodlands Protection Fund will finance these acquisitions, funded by federal grants, private donations, legislative appropriations, and investment returns. The bill mandates the Office of Green Acres to adopt rules for the program within a year of enactment.
