New Jersey S680 requires all electricity for artificial intelligence (AI) data centers and cryptocurrency mining facilities to be derived from new clean energy sources. The Board of Public Utilities (BPU) must approve an energy usage plan submitted by the facility's owner or operator. The plan must include procedures for deriving electricity from new verifiable Class I renewable energy or energy from newly constructed nuclear power plants, minimizing energy used for cooling, optimizing water usage, and ensuring building ventilation and weatherproofing.
